PROJECT INTRODUCTION 

MODUM (Models for Optimising Dynamic Urban Mobility) is developing a new approach for pro-active demand-responsive management of traffic in urban areas, which aims to support city councils in their efforts to minimise the environmental impact of urban traffic and improve the quality of life in urban environments.
A consortium of 9 partners from 5 European countries works on the MODUM project. (Project duration: 1.10.2011 - 31.12.2014)
This project has received funding from the European Union’s Seventh Framework Programme for research, technological development and demonstration under grant agreement no ICT 288205.

Welcome to the second newsletter of the MODUM project!

WELCOME TO THE SECOND NEWSLETTER OF THE MODUM PROJECT! 

These are interesting times, as we have just entered the final year of the project and everything is coming together. All the scientific models and technical systems have been developed, implemented, fine-tuned, and are now ready to be deployed. In the coming months we will start the field trials in the cities of Nottingham, Sofia, and Coventry, for which you can find more information within this newsletter.

INTEGRATION OF HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE SYSTEMS SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED 

During the past few months, individual hardware and software systems in the MODUM project have been successfully integrated and, as part of planned tests, have been operating in the field on a trial basis. The integration effort includes core systems such as the multi-mode decision support tool, the real-time traffic prediction tool and the traffic congestion data simulator, as well as the integration of the overall system with mobile devices to assist and inform the user.

Preparations for field trials in Nottingham and Sofia

PREPARATIONS FOR FIELD TRIALS IN NOTTINGHAM AND SOFIA 

The demonstration of the integrated system has been a successful starting point for the commencement of the first system trial, which is scheduled to be held in Nottingham in April 2014. Currently partners are busy to prepare the required means and materials for this field trial, such as maps, visualisation tools, and the core system.
